Jeremy Hand, Easily Influenced, CX & Unlimited Division, Peace River

Since he was 13 years old, Jeremy Hand has had a strong desire and love for being on the water and boating. Being around jet boats for most of his life, it was only a matter of time before he took up racing on his own.

“In 2013 I bought my first of eight race boats. Since then, it has been a burning passion of mine,” said Jeremy.

Racing in both the CX and Unlimited divisions, he has found that each class has it’s own set of positives and he enjoys different aspects of each.

“CX has always been a fun class with close competition and a lot of bumping and grinding,” said Jeremy. “The Unlimited Division has been a step up for me and requires an incredible amount of precision.”

Racing in the CX division, drivers can reach up to 110mph, while in the Unlimited division they can reach speeds up to 153mph.

Given these differences, Jeremy finds that the Unlimited class is in a world of its own when compared to the CX division.

“I tend to favour the Unlimited division. The competition and skill level are unreal and very few people get to experience anything like it,” said Jeremy.

When it comes to what he loves most about racing, the adrenaline rush while on the river is high on his list.

“I love the competitiveness and the rush from it,” said Jeremy. “I’ve experienced different facets of racing and high speeds through aviation, but nothing compares to the feeling you get when racing an Unlimited class race boat.”

Creating goals and working towards them is essential when it comes to this sport, and Jeremy has a very specific one that he hopes to accomplish in the near future.

“My goal is to be number one in the Jet Boat Racing Canada Championship,” said Jeremy.

With ten years of racing experience under his belt, Jeremy has had many memorable moments that he loves to reflect upon. Jet boat racing is a tough sport, but it often comes with some of the most rewarding experiences.

“Winning the World Championship in 2015 was hands down a favourite moment of mine,” said Jeremy.

Being a part of the racing community is something that Jeremy values and that strong sense of connection is what keeps him going race after race.

“Every year that I race, I find the people, crews and teams continue to amaze me,” said Jeremy. “The competitors are incredible people. We all carry a common desire to be competitive, have fun and socialize with one another.”

Jet boat racing is a sport that many people fall in love with, and Jeremy has some tried and true advice for those curious about getting involved.

“Have fun and don’t let your wife see your bank account!” said Jeremy.

All jokes aside, Jeremy is grateful for his time racing and all the opportunities it has given him. Creating many friendships along the way, jet boat racing truly has become an important part of his life.

“I feel very fortunate to take part in the sport, and I am thankful for the great relationships and experiences I have had along the way,” said Jeremy.
